Those voices! With sounds respectively soft and tempestuous, sounds that radiate authenticity and get under your skin, Alabama-born Brittany Howard – also front woman of the Alabama Shakes – and Michael Kiwanuka from North London bring the black music of the 1970s back to life. The African-American woman and the man with African roots both tell of their experiences, of being a «Black Woman» and a «Black Man In A White World», of their origins in the underclass and of their adversities. But they do it in an optimistic way, with huge voices, virtuoso guitar playing and music that at times sounds a little «retro» but is always up-to-date and relevant.
