Growing up in New York’s Hell's Kitchen neighbourhood, Alicia Keys has drawn on the area’s eclectic cultural mix to produce her own fiery brand of songs. No other artist blends the traditional and modern diversity of New York culture as skilfully as she to produce such an enthralling collection of urbane hits, all garnished by her virtuoso piano-playing and luxuriant, powerful voice which has made her a superstar. Soul-pop chart-topper Ira May from Basel, whose classical piano background and voice invite a few parallels with Alicia Keys, opens this highlight evening at the BALOISE SESSION.
