Manu Dibango
Thu, 28. Oct 1993, 8 PM | World Music
Festsaal Messe Basel
It was colourful, happy, cool and rhythmic, as Cameroon and Cuba were represented by Manu Dibango and Irakere at this evening of world music in 1993. Bald-headed Manu Dibango had his own music show on French TV where he presented his versatility. His music is difficult to categorize, sometimes African juju sounds, sometimes peaceful chanting or groovy jazz-rock rhythms. Ikarere was better known, an 11-man-band with loads of sounds from jazz, rock and folk. Since the Grammys and performances in Montreux, Ikarere is a desirable Cuban export.
